CHALLENGES

CHALLENGES

How do you ensure the frictionless movement of people; sit-in customers, take-away customers and staff? All moving around in a relatively small space, we needed to ensure the flow of people is seamless and obvious.

The space also needed to provide dual-function; a day-time coffee and sandwich spot as well as an evening event space. Ease of use by the operator and as a private-hire in order to maximise the value creation given the city-centre location.

OPERATIONAL UNDERSTANDING

OPERATIONAL UNDERSTANDING

Aesthetic functionality with a consideration for longevity and future maintenance. Considering the design from the operators perspective, our goal is for the space to age well; with hardwearing materials, ease of access to services and maximising the operational and experiential quality.

Optimising the CapEx where possible by using low-to-no maintenance materials, low-energy LED lighting scheme, limited end-of-day checklist. Small details, given the same consideration as the overall aesthetic of the space.

EXPERIENTIAL UNDERSTANDING

Increased dwell time is an objective for this scheme, and so acoustics have been core to the design approach. Utilising floor to ceiling curtain and a cork-based wall and ceiling covering, customers can comfortably spend a few hours doing work or chatting with a friend, without distraction.

Environmental noise alters brain function by triggering chronic stress, neuro-inflammation, and autonomic imbalance. Spending an hour catching up on work whilst waiting for the train over a coffee can either make you feel energised or exhausted. The answer for how to achieve for the former is good design.

Let's talk about what you're building.

Twenty-five minutes. Bring the idea, the site, or simply the feeling you're after.
Nothing to prepare.

What happens next

Tell me a little about the project below and pick a time that suits. I'll read what you've sent before we speak, so we can start with your place rather than introductions. If Programm Works isn't the right fit, I'll say so, and point you somewhere that is.

early is good

The best time to talk is before anything's been drawn. If you're still a year out, get in touch anyway. Some of the most useful conversations happen when there's nothing on paper yet.
